2008-09 Regional Results
Congratulations to Lake Michigan Catholic sophomores Janine Golob and Asha Gilmore, who qualified for State Forensics competition!
The forensic team participated at the Regional Tournament Saturday, April 18th. The top six winners in each category qualified for the State Finals in Ann Arbor on May 1st and 2nd. Two team members, Janine Golob and Asha Gilmore, placed 4th and 5th respectively. Both competitors participated in the extemporaneous event of forensics. The concept of extemporaneous speaking is to draw on factual information, interpret it, and present creative solutions to current global issues within a limited time frame. In a random drawing, students select an issue and have thirty minutes to prepare a speech and present it for judging. Examples of these issues include: "Spain: What are the objectives of the ETA separatist movement in this European nation?" "How is Felipe Calderon attempting to reduce drug-related crime in Mexico?" and "What has India learned about its national security in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks?" Competitors don't know what their topic is until they draw for a topic thirty minutes prior to their speech. This is one of the most difficult events in forensics! Congratulations to all team members who competed at Regional Finals.
