& Catholic Heritage Athletic Hall of Fame Guidelines
ARTICLE I – NAME AND PURPOSE
Section 1: There will be two organizations. One will be the LAKE MICHIGAN CATHOLIC ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME. The other will be the CATHOLIC HERITAGE ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME. They are established by the Athletic Department with the approval of the Catholic Community Education Commission (CCEC). They will co-exist as a measure of our recent history of Lake Michigan Catholic High School and the deep history & tradition of both St. Joseph Catholic & St. John Catholic High Schools.
Section 2: Purpose. The purpose is to recognize and honor those individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the achievements and prestige of Lake Michigan Catholic, St. Joseph’s Catholic or St. John’s Catholic Schools in the field of athletics and who have continued to demonstrate in their lives the values imparted. The LAKE MICHIGAN CATHOLIC ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME will recognize those members from Lake Michigan Catholic High School, since it’s inception in 1969. The CATHOLIC HERITAGE ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME will recognize those members from both St. Joseph Catholic & St. John Catholic High Schools.
ARTICLE II – REPRESENTATIVE BY SPORTS
In pursuit of the goal of inducting the most worthy athletes, no quota by sport is established. Selections, however, consider athletes in various sports avoiding as much as possible domination by any one sport in selections.

ARTICLE IV – CHANGES IN HALL OF FAME CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAWS
Changes in the constitution and by-laws may be made by a two-thirds majority vote of the HALL OF FAME BOARD.
ARTICLE V – ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME BOARD – SELECTION COMMITTEE
The HALL OF FAME BOARD is the selection committee. The same HALL OF FAME BOARD will oversee both the LAKE MICHIGAN CATHOLIC ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME & the CATHOLIC HERITAGE ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME. Their duties will be to review the constitution, make selections to both of the HALL OF FAMEs and raise funds if necessary. Membership to this board will be made through the office of the Athletic Director. Membership to this board will be as follows:
Superintendent or designated person (1)
Athletic Director (1)
Principal of the high school or active coach (1)
Member of the CCEC (1)
Former Lake Michigan Catholic, St. Joseph’s Catholic or St. John’s High Athletic Award Winners
Active or former coaches (4)
ARTICLE VI – REQUIREMENTS FOR NOMINATION
FORMER ATHLETES OF LAKE MICHIGAN CATHOLIC, ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC & ST. JOHN CATHOLIC high schools.
I) MANDATORY CRITERIA
One varsity letter
A minimum of 5 years since graduation
Some form of post competition award or recognition. Example: All-State Honors, Berrien County Athlete of Year Award, All-Southwest Michigan, etc.
II) OTHER NON-MANDATORY GUIDELINES
Number of sports in which the athlete participated
Number of varsity letters in a career
Individual school, conference or state records
Continued achievements in sports beyond high school
ARTICLE VII – SELECTION AND INDUCTION SCHEDULE
The HALL OF FAME BOARD SELECTION COMMITTEE is empowered to establish nomination and selection schedules and to establish the schedules and type of awards, presentation procedures and the permanent display of honors. This meeting will be called annually during the first trimester of each school year.
ARTICLE VIII – ATHLETIC INDUCTEES
Section 1: Any athlete who has earned a varsity award at Lake Michigan Catholic will be eligible for the LAKE MICHIGAN CATHOLIC ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME. Any varsity athletes from St. Joseph's Catholic or St. John's Catholic High Schools will be eligible for induction into the CATHOLIC HERITAGE ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME.
Section 2: Coaches and Administrators
Minimum five years tenure as coach or administrator at Lake Michigan Catholic, St. Joseph’s Catholic or St. John’s Catholic High, except in unusual circumstances.
At least four years since retirement or departure from coaching.
Outstanding contributions to the athletic program (can include an honorary membership for a non-coach or administrator).
ARTICLE IX – NUMBER OF INDUCTEES
Section 1: A charter class of as many as 10 members/teams may be inducted in the first year; 10 in 2006, 8 in 2007, 6 in 2008, and 4 each year after 2008. A class will be defined as selected members consisting of both the LAKE MICHIGAN CATHOLIC ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME & the CATHOLIC HERITAGE ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME. A class of any year will not exceed the number of athletes allowed in that given year no matter which HALL OF FAME the selected members go into.
Section 2: After 2008, no more than four athletes may be selected each year.
Section 3: Coaches, Administrators & Honorary. After 2008, no more than one may be selected each year.
Section 4: These numbers are limits rather than requirements and it is not mandatory that these members be inducted. It is also possible to select more in one category if the total membership does not exceed the given number. It is also possible that none may be selected in a given year.
Section 5: Removal from the ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME may be voted on by the HALL OF FAME COMMITTEE. The same procedure will be followed in removing a person from the HALL OF FAME as in selecting.
