Lake Michigan Catholic Students Excel on Fall 2007 MEAPs |
Lake Michigan Catholic students finished FIRST in 15 of the 21 MEAP testing areas reported from the Fall 2007 MEAP (grades 3 - 8) compared to area public schools. Congratulations to our students and staff for their outstanding performance!
The LMC Curriculum Office has received many questions regarding the Fall 2007 local public school MEAP scores that were published in the Sunday, April 13, 2008 Herald Palladium. The two most popular questions have been “How do our scores compare to the public schools?”, and “What do these scores really mean?”.
“What do these scores mean?”: The MEAP assesses the learning standards of the Michigan Department of Education curriculum, which most public schools and Lake Michigan Catholic Schools implements. There are 4 levels in all: level 1 is the highest level “Exceeds Standards”, level 2 is the second highest “Met Standards”, level 3 represents a “Basic” understanding of the standards, and level 4 represents an “Apprentice” level. The MEAP results printed in the paper represents the percent of students in each grade level that scored in the 1st or 2nd levels of proficiency on each subject area assessment.
“How do our scores compare to the public school districts?”: Below are the top five public school districts that were printed in the Herald Palladium, the LMC scores, and the state averages. If you are interested in comparing LMC’s scores to a local public district that is not listed, please note that only the top 5 public districts are listed. If the district you are interested in comparing LMC to is not listed this means they fell below the top 5 publics, and below our scores as well.
