Trekking Club Advisor: Mrs. Binger
The Trekking Club is open to students in grades 3-5 and meets after school on Mondays. Mrs. Binger and parent volunteers lead students on hikes through Knauff Park that exercise both the mind and body.
Shadows are growing long, and the end of the fall Trekking season is in sight. The weather on Monday afternoons has been glorious as the Trekkers logged many miles, exercising in nature’s gym, Knauff Park. Led by teacher Mrs. Nina Binger, the Trekkers have witnessed the change in season as their muffled footfall in September took on a distinctive crunch with more and more leaves underfoot by November. Everyone found their favorite vistas—the varied levels of growth descending the ravine, the first glimpse of Hickory Creek—taking it all in from their perches on fallen trees.
We will leave the Knauff Park trail in better condition than we found it. Not only have the Trekkers been conscientious about respecting the plants, animals, and natural debris that provides food and shelter for animals, they’ve picked up what does not belong on the trail—the paper and plastic that make “urban tumbleweeds.” Come December, we will return the park to the animals to drink and graze, sheltered from the wind, and anticipate what spring will bring when Trekking returns.
