Elementary Car Line: We Need Your Cooperation from Day One
From the very first day of school, it is critical that all the students, particularly our youngest Lakers, learn school procedures. We will conduct a dismissal practice on the first day of school and we need parent support to make the lesson stick. Unless your students walk to school, everyone is expected to use the car line.
We must reduce pedestrian crossings during peak traffic, particularly from 2:50-3:10. We do not want to set the example that it is ever acceptable for any student to cross the circle drive during drop-off or dismissal. Furthermore, stopping 2 lanes of traffic to escort children across the drive slows the progress and reduces safety.
Morning Drop-Off: Doors are locked until 7:30am. Students in Gr. K-5 meet in the cafeteria at assigned tables between 7:30-7:45 when they are picked up by teachers. After 7:45, students go directly to classrooms.
Pull up as far as possible along on the front sidewalk and use cafeteria and main doors, regardless of grade. Do not jam traffic by using the cafeteria door exclusively.
No parking is permitted at the curb or lawns at any time. If a student needs assistance carrying projects, park in the front (west) lot and use the main crosswalk.
Typically, only Preschool and Jr. Kindergarten students need to be escorted to their classrooms. Staff is on hand to direct students to rooms as needed.
Dismissal: It takes about a week to learn new faces and cars, and repetition is key for the teachers as well as the students.
Arrive on or a little after your car-pool's dismissal time. Please give priority to parents in the 2:50 dismissal group so traffic can clear.
STAY IN YOUR CAR and pull as far forward as possible or as directed to allow several cars to be loaded at once. Large orange cones are at the beginning of each loading zone.
Drivers who pick up students at the Main door should pull around drivers who are picking up students at the Cafeteria door. Leave some space between cars.
If a student is not in line, drivers will be sent to the far north end to wait while a student is located.
Did your child forget something in the building? If a student returns to the building, the driver should pull up to the far north end to wait for the student. Please note that students are not allowed back in the classrooms after 3:30. This is to teach responsibility, permit teachers to work uninterrupted after hours, and eliminate the expectation that staff members unlock doors for students.
Refer to the LMCES handbook for complete procedures.
