Minutes of Open Meeting
January 28, 2010
Meeting called to order at 7:00 by President Rusty Cutter.
Frank DeFrancesco gave the opening prayer and Pledge of Allegiance.

REPORTS
Pastors
Report
Father Jacobs: Father Bill welcomed Father Jim as new pastor at St.
Joseph’s Parish and noted a smooth transition from Monsignor Osborn and Father
Jim. Next week will be the Blessing of the Throats with all students being
blessed. Lenten activities are being discussed. Peggy Hanley will begin
coordinating CCD classes with Peggy Gallagher and Jason DeVoir will take over
Monsignor Osborn’s Senior Theology class.
President’s Report: No Report
ADMINISTRATION REPORTS
John Berlin: John Berlin outlined last Friday’s adoration by the HSMS with
positive student feedback. He discussed our growing foreign population and any
language barriers. Catholic Schools week was outlined. Graduation activities
changes were discussed and Valedictorians & Salutatorian were announced. The
ACE program/Strategic Plan with Brother William Campbell of NCEA was explained.
There is a 6-8 month development process which will develop a plan addressing
recruitment, retention (students and teachers) and marketing issues.
A resolution to support this process was made by Gary Bruce and seconded by Orla Mileski. Motion was approved.
Jody Maher: Jody Maher submitted a written report covering the Christmas Programs, MEAP results, Pre-School Ice Cream Social and Gabby Craig, 5th Grader who was awarded 3rd Place in the Daughters of the American Revolution “The Transcontinental Railroad” essay contest.
Cindy Payovich: A written report was submitted.
Janet Ordiway: Janet Ordiway explained her transition from paid employee to a contracted employee and reviewed how she works with the teachers to move the curriculum forward. She praised the faculty as one of the best she has worked with. Rusty Cutter praised Janet for her work and John Berlin explained her role in upcoming in-service days.
Gerald Heath: The athletic office is very busy finishing up the spring sports schedule. Softball is questionable this year. Gerald praised Lee for doing a great job following Mary Nielsen. Thanks to Lake Michigan Admirals for new basketball backboards and rims and thanks to the Giannola’s for the use of their lift for installation. There are no sports conflicts with graduation. There was discussion about uniform compliance.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Development-Gary Bruce: Meeting held in early January was very productive. The focus of discussion was getting more students into the school. Best potential customers continue to be the parishioners. Creative ways to establish financial support for teacher’s salaries were discussed.
Finance-John Berlin: January meeting was cancelled. Next meeting scheduled for February 4. Budget is looking good, although a poor cash flow was again noted. Registration starts mid March. A tuition increase was discussed. Tuition reimbursement for teacher required classes was discussed.
Building & Grounds-Bill Grover: Ice was pulling eaves off at the elementary school, damage has been repaired.
School Improvement-Carol Oehlhaffen: Committee will meet next Monday.
ASSOCIATION REPORTS
Laker Fun: No Report
Blue Tide: No Report
PUBLIC COMMENT: Orla Mileski and her husband attended the Right to Life March and inquired whether it had ever been discussed for our school to attend the March. Liability was stated as an issue and it was pointed out that is why the HSMS did the all day adoration.
NEW BUSINESS NONE
Next regularly scheduled meeting will be April (subject to change) @ St. Bernard’s Parish Center. Father Jim requested a move of the CCEC meeting night from Thursday to Tuesday.
